A Little Bit About Me

Samara Shavrick is a senior at Texas Tech majoring in musical theater and graduating in May of 2024. She currently holds a GPA of 3.9 and is a proud Red Raider! In her time at Texas Tech, she has served as a student ambassador and was elected to serve as chair for the Talkington College of Visual and Performing Arts in the Student Government Association. Samara also works at the University Recreation Center, teaching fitness classes to keep the student population healthy. In the Lubbock community, Samara teaches for an outreach program called Dance Connect with Ballet Lubbock, teaching dance classes to public elementary schools around the Lubbock area. In addition to her two jobs and her work as a full-time student, Samara also manages a branch of a company here in Lubbock that hosts character parties for birthdays and events. She has been involved in 6 productions in her time at Texas Tech, from playing leads in shows like Sweet Charity and The Threepenny Opera, to co-directing Fly By Night, the latter of which she won a meritorious achievement award in directing from the Kennedy Center American Theatre Festival Region 6. She is most proud of winning the Kennedy Center American Theatre Festival Musical Theatre Initiative in her freshman year at Tech. In her senior year, she was chosen to attend a prestigious theatre workshop at Bilkent University in Turkey, travelling with a select group of devoted Texas Tech students to study ancient Greek mask work. Recently, Samara has been auditioning in the professional theatre world attending callbacks in New York City. As her undergraduate journey wraps up, she cannot wait to see where her love of performing and academia take her.
